Visa to reside in Spain without carrying out any gainful (work or professional) activity, provided that the applicant has sufficient and guaranteed means to live on. This visa does not constitute a work permit.

"Checklist for Non Lucrative Visa"

When applying for a visa, you must submit a photocopy of all the original documents that you want to be returned to you at the end of the procedure. This Embassy does not make photocopies.

  • National visa form complete, dated and signed.. If a minor the form must be signed by both parents.
  • Recent passport photograph with white background as specified here:

    This Embassy won’t accept digital retouching on identity photographs.

  • Valid passport or travel document, recognised as valid in Spain. It must have a minimum validity of one year and at least two blank pages. Photocopy of all the pages.
  • Valid resident permit/ visa in Thailand. Only for non-Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos Nationals. Visa applications submitted by non-residents who are in the countries mentioned before on visitors visa will not be accepted.
  • Certificate of criminal record (only in the case of persons over 18 years of age, criminal age in Spain) issued by the country or countries where the applicant has resided within the five years preceding the date of the visa application. It cannot be older than 6 months, unless the certificate itself specifies a longer expiration.

    These certificates must be legalised through the consular representations of the issuing country or, in the case of signatory countries to the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961, hold the Hague Apostille, except official documents issued by a Member State of the European Union, which will not require to be legalised. Sworn translation into Spanish is also required.

  • Public or private health insurance taken out by an insurance company authorised to operate in Spain.

    The medical insurance must not have co-payments or coverage limit, that is, it must cover 100% of medical, hospital and extra-hospital expenses. Spanish companies like Sanitas, Adeslas, Axa, etc. offer coverage of 100% of expenses and unlimited.

    Medical insurance from foreign companies that establish maximum coverage limits may exceptionally be accepted if they meet the other required characteristics. Orientatively, insurance that covers up to a maximum of 500,000.00 US dollars may be accepted.

  • Medical certificate, issued by a registered medical practitioner, no later than 3 months prior to the date of application.

    This Embassy does not provide information about medical centres that issue this certificate. The applicant may contact any public or private medical centre duly accredited.

  • Financial means required to cover the living expenses and, where appropriate, those of their family members, for one year, in accordance with the following amounts:

    • For the support of the main applicant, monthly, 400 % of the IPREM (Indicador Público de Renta de Efectos Múltiples), which in 2024 amounts to 33,600 € per year or its legal equivalent in foreign currency.
    • For the support of each of the family members in charge, 100 % of the IPREM (Indicador Público de Renta de Efectos Múltiples), which in 2024 amounts to 8,400 € per year.

    Proof of financial means must be provided by: bank certificates and statements, income received, investment funds, deposits, etc.

    Bank statements and bank account certificates must be submitted for the last 12 months with balances, movements and transactions. The same applies to deposit accounts or mutual funds, investments, etc. Bank documents must have the original bank stamp.

    Last Individual Tax Declaration.

    For bank accounts from outside Thailand, bank statements or bank books certificates duly stamped with original bank stamps, and/or notarised and/or apostilled must be submitted in order to provide reliable proof of authenticity and to be considered. In this case, the documents must also be translated into Spanish by a translator either accredited by the Spanish consulate / embassy of origin or an official Spanish registered translator, or the translations must be stamped and validated by the competent Spanish consulate / embassy in the place of origin.   • Fill in the “Autorización inicial de residencia temporal’ fee self-assessment form 790-052, to be paid at the Consulate on the day your application is accepted.
  • Fill in the EX-01 form ‘Autorización de residencia temporal no lucrativa’.
  • Pay the relevant visa fee and legalization fees in cash at the Consulate on the day your application is accepted.

FAMILY MEMBERS OF THE APPLICANT

In the case of spouses or civil partners, it is necessary to submit, additionally, marriage or civil partnership certificate and, in the case of descendants, birth certificate. Sworn translation into Spanish is required.

All these documents need to be legalised through the consular representations of the issuing country or, in the case of signatory countries to the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961, hold the Hague Apostille (except official documents issued by a Member State of the European Union, which will not require to be legalised).

In the case of minors travelling with only one parent, a consent letter to be signed in front of the Consul or official document proving sole custody is required, these documents must be translated into Spanish by a sworn translator.

Applications accepted at the Spain Visa Application Centre will be submitted on the next working day at the Embassy of Spain/Consulate General of Spain. Once the application has been submitted, the applicant can be further requested additional documentation in support of the same. Please note as per the instructions received from Embassy of Spain minimum processing time is upto 3 months (It may delay depending on case to case).
